It started like this...

Kimberly found a trailer on Craig's List.

The ad read:

Restorable 1967 Santa Fe Trailer - $50

12ft, needs some TLC! Would love to see this go to someone who has the passion to restore this great trailer. Has not been moved for 15+ years. DMV - have title - has not been registered since 1977. Interested parties call between 4-6pm ONLY 916-xxx-xxxx

By the time I was home from fishing it was after 6pm and we were pretty sure that the trailer was already gone. We decided to give the number a call the following day after 4pm. Kimberly was more than a little excited about a Santa Fe, they have a great floor plan, and couldn't wait a minute past 3:30 to call. The fellow said the trailer was still available and that we could come check it out.

The owner, Mike, greeted us and led us around the back of his shop. On the way he asked us some questions about how we intended to use the trailer. When he was satisfied that we were going to restore the little '67 Cub he broke the news to us. He told us that he had turned down a lot of people who wanted to turn the camper into a flat bed or an ATV hauler. He told us the trailer was actually free and that if we wanted it he would call us after putting on some tires that would get us home. Getting it jacked out looked like a lot of work to give something away for free, so Kimberly insisted on giving him 20 bucks for his time. He wouldn't take it, but we made him.

We received a call 2 days later. Mike said that the trailer was ready and in the driveway. We arrived to find that he had put on two clean, 5 lug, Ford Ranger rims and tires with at least 80% tread. He also made sure we left with a matching spare. There are clearly many memories and at least some degree of attachment to this rig. We are going to document the restoration through this blog. We hope that Mike will enjoy watching the progress and not get too horrified by the process.
